Community Update

It wasn’t very long ago when we launched Greater Equity 2030. We knew that we had a lot of work ahead of us but were optimistic and energized by your engagement and the community’s commitment to make an impact.

Now, only a few months later and everything seems upside down. We surveyed the partners for input. They let us know that they needed to focus on figuring out their path through the pandemic and our plans for summer internships need to be postponed. However, they also shared their continuing commitment to Equity 2030 when life begins to return to normal.

The Greater Together team is taking a deep breath and reflecting on how best to serve our long-term goals of greater diversity, equity and inclusion at a time of such immediate uncertainty.

We’ve been discussing ways to offer an online mentoring program for young people interested in a career in the creative economy. A virtual mentorship could eliminate a lot of roadblocks for both students and mentors. Or, we explore a competition that would engage aspiring creatives and offer opportunities for learning and community experience.

We will keep you informed as things develop. In the meantime, thank you for your support. If you have ideas, please send them our way. Perhaps our time apart will reinforce the importance of being “Greater Together.”

Stay safe. Thank you for doing your part to support your community, employees and friends. Best of luck during these challenging times.

Greater Together is a nonprofit organization that promotes diversity, equity and inclusion in the creative industries in the Greater Milwaukee area. We embrace collaboration and creativity, and believe in inclusion, so everyone can participate, prosper and reach their full potential within the creative economy.

We are the originators of the Greater Together Challenge, a radically open competition of ideas focused on dismantling segregation in Greater Milwaukee.
